Images of the planets within our own solar system.

Saturn, 11th Feb 2012 early in the morning, approx 5.30am. Positioned in Virgo, just north east of Spica. Currently just entering retrograde motion, heading towards opposition on 15th Apr. North is up. Around 200 still frames taken from 5 mins of webcam video.

Jupiter, 1st Nov 2011. Great Red Spot just visible upper left. Taken with compact camera through the eyepiece.

Jupiter, 11th Feb 2012, early evening, moving lower in the west. Taken from approx 4 mins of webcam video. Ganymede, IO, Europa moons just visible bottom right to top left.

Mars 25th Feb 2012. North is up. Showing dark surface feature of Syrtis Major, as well as the north polar ice cap.

Mars at opposition, 3rd Mar 2012. North is up. North polar ice cap, and ice cloud to the west and south. Composite of around 500 frames taken from 8 mins of webcam video.

Venus, 14th Jan 2012, shortly after sunset. Approx 190 frames taken from a webcam video. Gibbous phase clearly visible, although no surface detail due to the permanent thick cloud cover.
