Keep an eye on Venus and Jupiter – notice anything?

Last week I posted on Venus, Jupiter and the Moon as they all came together in the western sky during a spectacular sunset on Feb 25th.  You may have suspected since then that Venus and Jupiter have been drawing closer.  Well indeed they have and this gap is now closing rapidly as they move towards their Mar 13th conjunction (when they will appear close together in the sky).  This is mostly down to Venus which is currently moving rapidly across the sky, closing the gap on Jupiter, and appearing higher in the sky as each day passes.  Come Mar 13th they will be less than 1 degree apart.  Keep an eye out!

As an aside, Mars is also currently very prominent, quite high in the eastern sky not too long after sunset.  Here’s a good article on observation, although a telescope will be needed.
