The Great Orion Nebula – 5th Dec 2012

Thought I would have a go at imaging this again, almost a year on from last time.  There was snow lying on the ground this time – a cold night!  The Great Orion Nebula lies in the middle of Orion’s Sword.   With a good clear sky this area has a slight blue haze to it even with the naked eye.  With binoculars this is very visible.  This nebula is so bright that even with an exposure of 80 seconds the centre of the nebula appears over exposed – it is glowing so brightly from the hot stars concealed within.

This image is built of up 41 x 80 second exposures – this image stacking has really added depth and texture to the swirls of the nebula I think – especially on the enlargement.  It is vastly improved over my previous attempt underneath!
