Just spent a pleasant evening outdoors – finally getting to grips with The Moore Winter Marathon. Ticked off 8 of the 25 telescope objects this evening. Alas, despite looking at the right time I couldn’t pick out the Great Red Spot on Jupiter tonight. My favourite on the list tonight was the binary star Gamma Arietis – a pair of stars that orbit each other every 5000 years (or more). Worth another look in the future with the camera is the M78 nebula in Orion. This contains a couple of bright central stars, but the surrounding mist of the nebula was very faint visually. The M42 nebula in Orion’s Sword looking stunning as ever.
