With Venus rising ever higher in Aquarius (south west) in the early evening and outshining all else in the sky apart from the moon, it seemed a good candidate for a trial of the webcam.  Here’s the result:

Although the surface detail is completely obscured (permanently) by thick cloud cover, its partial or ‘gibbous’ phase, is nicely visible.  This is as a result of it’s current position relative to Earth and the Sun causing it to be only partially lit.  As Venus catches us up, it will become increasingly in the shade as it moves right between us and the Sun, showing us it’s shaded side.  Faint cloud detail is apparently possible to see, sometimes, but that will need practice.

Also observed the same evening, open star clusters in Auriga.
